Camp Cell

The Camp Cell runs Disorient camp at Burning Man.

First implemented in 2022, the Camp Cell replaces the role of Camp Lead of years past. This means that Camp Lead responsibilities are now distributed amongst the active Disorient members in the Camp Cell. This choice emphasizes the collaborative and distributed aspects of Disorient.

Organization

1. Camp Cell activity starts at the beginning of each Gregorian calendar year and crescendoes until the Burn.
2. Prerequisites to become a Camp Cell Member:
- Successfully led a Cell at Disorient on the playa;
- Camped with Disorient on the playa for at least 3 years;
3. Members are invited and/or confirmed by the Directors.
4. Camp Cell automatically dissolves after each Burning Man. A new Camp Cell is created each year.

How to join

Following our distributed mantra, Camp Cell tasks can usually be broken down into smaller units. There are no preset limits on the number of Camp Cell Members. If you are genuinely interested to serve at the Camp Cell level, please let us know. We will strive to identify tasks that match your interests and availability so you can contribute to camp organization.

Communication

- Camp Cell Members collaborate mainly through the (private) Camp Cell channel on Discord and video calls.
- Communications with individual campers happen privately, mainly through email.
- Pre-playa. Every year before heading to the playa, Camp Cell hosts at least one DisOrientation video call that all campers of that year are invited to join to get to know each other and ask questions.
- In Camp. The Camp info board displays playa names of Camp Cell Members along with Playa Schedule and playa names of Leads of other Cells i.e. Kitchen, Club House, Power, Sustainability, Music, etc.
