Disorient has been a camp at Burning Man since 2001.

D26 recap

At D26 Bedouin Tent replaced Pallet Rack as the central structure of our Club House. Candle Vibe grew to become the main--and almost exclusive--light source in the Club House and throughout camp. Bedouin Tent lit with Candles generated a warm and intimate environment for our new Club House.

Containers were placed closer to the front of camp to help anchor the Bedouin Tent and to bring the physical objects necessary to create Disorient closer to their presentation site which reduced efforts during Alpha and Disengage.

CoSign, our playa beacon and the interface of camp with Esplanade, was updated to spell-out D26. Frozen Minty Towels were distributed nearby every day. The Camp Liaison Desk was placed on the 9 o'clock side. This was a surprisingly successful, if obvious in retrospect, new module at D26.

Talks, Amp'd Yoga and other events were held again in Club House. In addition to the Bedouin Tent, spaces between and inside containers including the Distillery of Leaves created intimate spaces right next to the dance floor. The D26 Chair, made of 5 interconnected pieces of plywood was added as a new sitting option.

Our 8 o'clock corner was dedicated to fire installations and performances which sometimes spilled onto esplanade and into the Club House.

Kitchen, the Well were of the 8 o'clock side of Leo Lane which was flanked by containers and passed through the Diamond of Square Shades where tents were setup..

The Pornj Clothing Exchange was located between two shipping containers and our dye sublimation station where participants could decorate (preferably synthetic) clothing items with an array of designs from the Disorient Graphics collection was inside a container.

Ori, the new Disorient app, was a significant enabler for D26. It streamlined our registration process, made it easier for new campers to participate and an offline version was available for download for campers who wished to do so before heading to the playa.

Disorient is a collective

Disorient is a sound, visual and performance art collective. We create art projects and art installations with hardware including wood, scaffolding, palette rack, containers, recycled materials, your body, Raspberry Pi, geodesic domes, inflatable structures, video, repurposed objects, black lights and vehicles. We develop software for our installations.

Our guiding principles are outlined in the Disorient Model and in the Political Economy of Disorient. Disorient is an open creative platform powered by love.

Our contribution to the vernacular includes Pornj and GlamTech.

Disorient ecosystem

When we are not on the Playa, we organize events, retreats and happenings. Funds raised during those events help support our art projects on and off playa. Following our economic model, 100% of profit is reinvested in Disorient.

Those include Country Club (since 2011) upstate New York, Bedouin Tech (2014-2018) in the desert of Dubai and Fun Tsang (since 2016) on the beach of a tiny uninhabited tropical island of Hong Kong. Those outdoor camping retreats last several days and are aligned with the Burning Man ethos. In September 2021 we organized the first Burning Mantap in Bali, Indonesia.

Our first fundraisers outside the US happened in 2009 in Brazil and Argentina

Thousands of DOers (DisOrienters) have camped with Disorient at Burning Man since 2001. About half of those campers are in the US. The other half is distributed in dozens of other countries. We use Discord, our Ori app and other platforms to stay connected.
