Disorient presents: LET'S GO CAMPING
A Dancefloor Opera in 15 Vignettes - Friday November 19, 2010 - Sullivan Room, New York City
Sketched and Moderated by The Eye
Produced by 24/7
Lighting Director: TBA
Disorient DJ line-up: The Bass (NYC), Reda (NYC), Subsector (Philly), Saadhu (LA)
Synopsis: Bliss is hard to reach. Here’s the lowdown on how to get there through a series of signature hacks, modules and myths by Disorient. A DIY guide to happiness inspired by the Burning Man Principles.
Format: The nightclub is the opera house of the A.D.D. generation. The dancefloor is the new stage where house music never stops. Every dancer is a player. 15 loosely scripted vignettes--lasting between 45 seconds and 2 minutes each--are visually triggered like boxing rounds. Vignettes are gestures and actions rather than performances. They are visual punctuations during which the decor becomes dynamic through the activation of the participants. The resulting objects of some vignettes become part of a temporally staggered decor. The location where each vignette unfolds is predetermined. Disorient Myths and Burning Man Principles support each other while Stations provide a framework through metaphorical references and format guidance.
Description of actions:
Vignette announcement: Girl (HS, St., ...) presents/parades holding vignette # up high above her head the way boxing rounds are announced. Demetrius sings vignette # next to her. They start from DJ booth and walk to vignette location. Girl and vignette number are well lit.
3: Cover an architectural element and/or people with mylar;
4: Distribute food. Focus on presentation;
11: Gathering the DJs and taking a group picture;
15: Sunrise: A pornj globe rises above a silhouette desert landscape.
Some installations become decor that stay deployed most of the night (until strike).
