Geodesic Domes are intertwined with the history of Disorient. Domes covered with video were a Disorient signature in the early years (2001-2004) on the playa.
A geodesic dome is an almost spherical shell structure based on a network of great circles (geodesics) lying approximately on the surface of a sphere. The geodesics intersect to form triangular elements that have local triangular rigidity and also distribute the stress across the entire structure.[1]
Disorient Dome #1 (5V - 36'diameter - 3/4"EMT)
Acquired August 2001 (Gifted by Leo and The Bass. Fabricated by Jochen TBC)
Cover: white
Struts ane hardware stored in Disorient BM container
Needs new cover
Disorient Dome #2 "Bok" (4V - 32(?)'diameter - 2" aluminum conduit)
Acquired August 2004
Gold cover (not in good shape) last seen in NY Dock container in March 2016
Struts of dome stored at Leo's NYC studio
List of struts (measurements are holes center-to-center):
- A - 30x - 45.5"
- B - 30x - 53" (has steeper curve than C, otherwise identical)
- C - 60x - 53"
- D - 72x - 56.25"
- E - 30x - 58.25"
- F - 31x - 53.75"
- G - 40x - 47.75"
- H - 18x - 60"
- (H) - 2x - 38.5"
- J - 2x - 40"
- K - 1x - 39.5"
Disorient Dome #3 "SleepDep" (3V - 23'8"diameter - 3/4"EMT)
Acquired September 2004 (Gifted by SleepDep)
Cover: orange tarps
Struts stored in the Dock container
Shipping volume (struts only, hardware and cover shipped in shared black travel crate): 7 cu/ft
Notes:
20120713 - 5/8 config installed at Warsaw for Disorient presents: COMPRESSOR.
20120709 - John Dingee fabricates more struts. Dome now have enough struts for 5/8 config.
20120610 - Strut count (Eye) A:32 B:49 C:75
20120610 - Enough struts for 3/8 config (installed at Figment 2012), some missing struts to complete 5/8 config.
20120610 - When fabricating more struts, consider making enough to complete 3/4 config.
20120610 - Struts color coding not consistent with Desert Dome diagram used for assembly. Remap to: green=yellow, purple=blue, blue=red
20120610 - Need to purchase hardware (bolts, nuts and washers). Until then, use Dome #4 hardware.
Disorient Dome #4 (4V - 32'diameter - 3/4"EMT)
Acquired October 8, 2010 (Gifted by unknown - probably fabricated by Nicholas Whitaker)
