Disorient is a camp at Burning Man
Disorient has been a camp at Burning Man since 2001. In 2011, Disorient was at 2:00 & Esplanade. Our modular sculpture the Geodesic Temple was placed in front of the camp and equipped with a Funktion One sound system.
The Geodesic Temple is a new modular sculpture by Disorient. It is made of hundreds of 2x4 struts assembled together with Simas and Lowroad custom connectors. Geodesic Temple is presented in the GAX configuration where five GeoTem04 modules create an open sanctuary.
Disorient is also about sound and performance. In addition to our residents we invite DJs to play on our sound system. During the week of Burning Man, we set-up a live music stage and invite bands to perform.
Disorient is an art collective
Disorient is an open creative platform powered by love. We create art projects and art installations with hardware including wood, scaffolding, palette rack, containers, recycled materials, your body, geodesic domes, inflatable structures, video, repurposed objects, black lights and vehicles. We develop software for our installations (DMX sequencing, MAX, Java, C, etc.). Our guiding principles are outlined in the Disorient Model and in the Political Economy of Disorient.
Our contribution to the vernacular includes Pornj and GlamTech.
Disorient events
When we are not on the Playa, we organize events to raise funds for our art projects on and off playa and support Burning Man.
Every year on Memorial day weekend we organize Country Club upstate New York, a 4 day outdoor event aligned with the Burning Man ethos.
In 2009 we organized our first fundraisers in Brazil and Argentina.
As of July 2011, Disorient has 1300 members and 50,000 posts on our online forum, The Puddle; even more in social networks and in deep cover. They're about 50% US East Coast, mostly NYC and Philadelphia, 20% West Coast/Central US and 30% outside the US, including members in the UK, Russia, Israel, Canada, Hong Kong, Sweden, France, Argentina, Japan, Lithuania, Brazil, Australia and Germany.
Too Much Is Rarely Enough.
