Disorient is a camp at Burning Man
2017 is the year of the D at Disorient. A 120ft.x150ft. letter "D" centerpiece made of Square Shades will protect our tenters from the elements and will make Disorient noticeable from high altitude. Chand Baori, designed by Disorient India, is composed of 4 inward-facing oversized series of steps. It is the central component of our frontage and the place where Disorient interacts with Burning Man. It supports the Disorient Sign and includes the Square in which latest flavors of Disorient music, sound art and interactive light installations will be served. At the H2O Bar sparkling water and ice-cold Minty Towels will be available.
Gon Kirin, our flagship art car by Disorient Hong Kong will flank Chand Baori when it is not roaming the playa. The Bedouin Tech Lounge organized by Disorient Dubai hosts camp feasts and shisha sunsets. Enzo, The Nautilus and half dozen other art cars will contribute to the festivities. This year, the Duke's is even harder to find. At the bow of camp, beyond Esplanade, Geodesic Temple reaches towards the Man. We're shaking things up in 2017, so for the first time, Disorient will not have a Dome in camp.
Disorient is a collective
Disorient is a sound, visual and performance art collective. We create art projects and art installations with hardware including wood, scaffolding, palette rack, containers, recycled materials, your body, geodesic domes, inflatable structures, video, repurposed objects, black lights and vehicles. We develop software for our installations. Our guiding principles are outlined in the Disorient Model and in the Political Economy of Disorient. Disorient is an open creative platform powered by love.
When we are not on the Playa, we organize events and happenings to raise funds for our art projects on and off playa and support Burning Man. 100% of profit is reinvested in Disorient.
Every year we organize Country Club upstate New York and Bedouin Tech in the desert of Dubai. Both outdoor camping events last several days and are aligned with the Burning Man ethos.
In 2009 we organized our first fundraisers outside the US in Brazil and Argentina; in 2014, Dubai; in 2016, Hong Kong.
Thousands of DOers (DisOrienters) have camped with Disorient at Burning Man since 2001. They're about 40% US East Coast, mostly NYC and Philadelphia, 20% West Coast/Central US and 40% outside the US, including members in the UK, Russia, Israel, Canada, Hong Kong, Sweden, France, Argentina, Japan, Lithuania, Brazil, Australia, Dubai and Germany. We use social networks to stay connected.
Too Much Is Rarely Enough.
