Disorient is a camp at Burning Man
Disorient is a sound, visual and performance art collective. Disorient has been a camp at Burning Man since 2001. In 2013, Disorient was 120,000 sq. ft. at 2:45 & Esplanade with 241 campers. In front, the Pyramid was a patchwork of collaborative efforts such as the new Sign, Pornj Star Lounge, Drop and Disorient Poster retrospective. It was backed by the Dome, which featured our new Infinity Mirror Sign above the dancefloor. The camp unfolded in the back with more subtle offerings, notably the Duke's, Disorient's speakeasy. Tighter and Brighter.
Disorient is an art collective
Disorient is an open creative platform powered by love. We create art projects and art installations with hardware including wood, scaffolding, palette rack, containers, recycled materials, your body, geodesic domes, inflatable structures, video, repurposed objects, black lights and vehicles. We develop software for our installations (DMX sequencing, MAX, Java, C, etc.). Our guiding principles are outlined in the Disorient Model and in the Political Economy of Disorient.
When we are not on the Playa, we organize events and happenings to raise funds for our art projects on and off playa and support Burning Man.
Every yearsince 2011 we organize Country Club upstate New York, a 4 day outdoor event aligned with the Burning Man ethos.
In 2009 we organized our first fundraisers in Brazil and Argentina.
More than 2,300 DOers (DisOrienters) have camped with Disorient at Burning Man since 2001. They're about 50% US East Coast, mostly NYC and Philadelphia, 20% West Coast/Central US and 30% outside the US, including members in the UK, Russia, Israel, Canada, Hong Kong, Sweden, France, Argentina, Japan, Lithuania, Brazil, Australia and Germany. As of July 2011, Disorient has 1300 members and 50,000 posts on our online forum, The Puddle; even more in social networks and in deep cover.
Too Much Is Rarely Enough.
