COMPRESSOR VI: Re-envisioning Metropolis

Tickets on sale now!

Tickets: https://disorient.ticketleap.com/c2010/dw

Compressor is DISORIENT'S annual ignition of the collective rocket that drives our community to the playa. It's a chance to premiere the latest art and performances that will define us on the playa.

This year's theme will focus on reclaiming the future of metropolis through high-tech interactive art and parables of sustainability in the heart of our metropolis. How do the denizens of metropolis reinvent their environment in a far away land? How does word for the future from the past square with the actual future? What then do we learn about our own future metropolis?

Costume and art ideas include future-retro to future-techno, cyber-tribal to nouveau-formal, Nicolai Tesla to Fritz Lang and anything else that captures the essence of Re-envisioning Metropolis.

Two Rooms of Hot-Shit DJs Including:

Disorient is a camp at Burning Man

Disorient has been a camp at Burning Man since 2001. In 2010, Disorient is on the Esplanade. Our interactive installation the Art Car Wash will buff your bumpers with a grooving daytime disco. Come play, learn and grow with us.

The Art Car Wash is a sexy daytime disco and interactive zone for art cars, art car drivers, and anyone who enjoys getting their bumpers buffed. All mutant vehicles (and non-vehicles...) are invited to chill out at the Art Car Wash and get buffed, blown, and waxed to the sounds of groovalicious daytime DJ sets. Interactive docking stations allow all playa participants to join in the fun. Now with more misters, hand mitts, bubbles and other buffy fuzzy things! So head on over, and roll on in...

Disorient is also about sound and performance. In addition to our residents we invite DJs to play on our sound system. During the week of Burning Man, usually on Thursday, we set-up a live music stage and invite bands to perform.

Disorient is an art collective

Disorient is an open creative platform powered by love. We create art projects and art installations with hardware including wood, scaffolding, palette rack, containers, recycled materials, your body, geodesic domes, inflatable structures, video, repurposed objects, black lights and vehicles. We develop software for our installations (DMX sequencing, MAX, Java, C, etc.). Our guiding principles are outlined in the Disorient Model.

A fresh example of art collaboration at Disorient: Everyone is invited to create and share their own sequences for Volver Leo's (and Image Node's) 2009 wearable blinky using the Disorient Blinky Designer.

Our contribution to the vernacular includes Pornj and GlamTech.

Disorient events

When we are not on the Playa, we organize parties to raise funds for our camp and support Burning Man.

In 2009 we organized our first parties outside the US in Brazil and Argentina. As of March 2010, Disorient has over 800 members, 50% US East Coast, 25% West Coast/Central US and 25% outside the US, including members in the UK, Russia, Israel, Canada, Hong Kong, Sweden, France, Argentina, Japan and Germany. We stay connected through our discussion board: The Puddle.
